Crumb cakes originally were a New York style of cake. Many bakeries in the New Jersey area served these as “crumb buns” rather than a full cake.
It has loads of big crumbs with a fresh and soft yellow cake underneath and has driven people crazy for years. It was a dessert of choice to bring to someone’s house when you were going over for coffee. Entenmann’s made a good “Ultimate Crumb Cake” which comes pretty close, but this recipe reminds me of the bakery buns we used to get every Sunday. So get a big pot of coffee going and enjoy this beloved crumb cake.
