Split pea soup

Quickly simmer this pot of soup on a cool Fall evening. This is really a one-pot meal. It’s easy to make, easy on the budget and very delicious.

Smoked Ham Hock or Turkey Legs add a nice smoky dimension to this soup. One ingredient that is a little out of the ordinary is celery root. It’s not used in many dishes but is great in this hearty soup. Turnips or potatoes can be substituted.  Serve with fresh rye bread and butter for a filling, comforting meal.
